THE KNEE REFLEX
Figure below shows an
example of record of elastic (curve 2) and viscous (curve 3) parameters
alteration during the excitation of the knee reflex in m. quadriceps femoris.
The registration of viscoelastic properties of muscles was performed by means
of portable "Vibrational Viscoelastometer". The knee reflex was caused by the stroke of
neurological hammer provided with an accelerometer on the tendon of m.
quadriceps femoris. The accelerometer signal (curve 1) was also recorded in
computer and was used to estimate the stroke force as well as a reference to
measure the delay time of response relatively to the stroke moment.
To characterize the muscular response the magnitude of muscle elasticity
variation was measured. All measurements were performed for left and right
leg of eleven persons with no pronounced violations in their locomotive
systems. The results of processing of these data are shown on the next
figure. Here one can easily see the correlation between stroke force and the
magnitude of elasticity variation and the inverse correlation between the
stroke force and the stroke-response delay time (shown as the circle
diameter).
